Creeping Toad projects revolve around celebration and set out to help people discover their own ways of valuing the "specialness" of their homes, schools, neighbourhoods and the wildlife that surrounds us.
Toadwork combines traditional field study and investigation with the inspiration of storytelling and the skills of making and performing. Creeping Toad projects create enthusiastic and supportive settings where people can set out on adventures that will explore both the world they live in and the strengths and unexpected skills within themselves.
A Creeping Toad project might run from a short half-day drop-in event at a country fair to a lively workshop with a summer playscheme or in a school. Longer residencies create bigger celebrations and might run for several days or several weeks, drawing classes, youth groups and whole communities into organic, growing, thrilling creativity where the final conclusion is designed, shaped and eventually conducted by the participants themselves.
... and those final celebrations? They take all manner of forms, from the simple pleasure of telling brand new stories to a wondering audience, to the gentle puppet-dances of a group of five year olds describing the life of a canal... a twilight procession through a town and out to a nature reserve... a giant book where everything - stories, paper, design, final performance - is shaped by the class itself... the strange enchantment of animated trails - of a world come wild and weird life, unfurling the wonder, delight and danger of tales hidden in a local park or wooded glen.
